Apr 8 & Apr 15 Lost Wax Cast Bronze Jewelry

from 150.00

2 day workshop
Sunday, April 8, 2pm-5pm and Sunday, April 15, 2pm-5pm
Location: 817 W. Davis Street #110
Instructor: James Thurman

Lost wax casting is an ancient metalworking technique that continues to be used today as a method of making jewelry.  The process takes an original design made out of wax, encases it inside of a mold, removes the wax, and then pours molten metal into the mold.  It is called “lost wax” because the original wax piece is melted away.  In this 2-part workshop, participants will first create an original jewelry design out of wax (pendants are the simplest but other types of jewelry, like rings or charms, are possible too). The wax pieces will then be cast in bronze by the instructor before the second session.  During the second class, students will learn about basic metal finishing and complete their jewelry piece to wear home.
