from 80.00

Saturday, November 12, 3-6pm
Location: 817 W. Davis #110 Street
Instructor: Umut Demirgüç Thurman

By using a sewing machine to stitch cord together, colorful baskets of almost limitless types and sizes can be made quickly.  Students are encouraged to bring a range of colors of thread they might like to use along with their own personal sewing machine (but not required).  Although no prior experience with a sewing machine is necessary, it is helpful to make the most of your time in the workshop.

All tools and materials are provided.  Just add your creative spark…

Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Umut builds upon her background in textile design in her jewelry and metalwork.  Learning is a life-long process that evolves through continual exploration in the studio, both as an instructor as well as a maker.  The unique experience of creating beautiful objects by hand is a continual inspiration.

After earning her MFA in Metalsmithing & Jewelry from the University of North Texas, Umut returned to Istanbul to coordinate the Enameling & Metalworking Studio at The Glass Furnace.  For more than ten years, Umut has been teaching a wide range of techniques utilizing enameling, metalworking, and fiber-based techniques, both in Turkey and USA.
